Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Enclave.

General

What is Enclave?

Enclave is a privacy-first chat platform — like Discord, but without the surveillance. We collect zero telemetry, zero analytics, and never sell your data. Your conversations belong to you.

Is Enclave free?

Yes. The free tier includes 2 servers, 50 members per server, 500 MB storage, and 30-day message history. For more, see our pricing.

How is Enclave different from Discord?

No telemetry, no tracking, no ads. End-to-end encrypted DMs. No phone number required. See the full comparison.

Can I use Enclave on mobile?

Yes. Enclave is a PWA (Progressive Web App). On your phone's browser, tap "Add to Home Screen" to install it as a native-feeling app with push notifications.

Is there a desktop app?

Yes! Enclave has a native desktop app for Windows and Linux (macOS coming soon). It includes instant startup with a bundled client, global push-to-talk hotkeys, enclave:// deep links, native notifications, gamepad/joystick PTT support, and auto-updates. Download it here.

What languages does Enclave support?

Currently English, Spanish, French, and Japanese. More languages are coming. You can change your language in User Settings → Language.

Privacy & Security

Are my messages encrypted?

Direct messages: Yes. DMs use ECDH key exchange with AES-256-GCM encryption. Messages are encrypted on your device before being sent — not even the server can read them.

Server messages: No. Server (channel) messages are stored in plaintext on the server, similar to Discord and Telegram groups. This is necessary for features like search, bots, and message history.

Does Enclave collect any data about me?

No. Zero telemetry, zero analytics, zero activity tracking, zero third-party data sharing. We don't even track which features you use. See our Privacy Policy.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Go to User Settings → Privacy & Safety → Export My Data to download a JSON file with all your account data.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. Go to User Settings → My Account → Danger Zone → Delete Account. This is permanent and cannot be undone.

Do I need a phone number to sign up?

No. Just a username, email, and password. We don't require phone verification.

Features

Does Enclave have voice and video?

Yes. WebRTC-based voice channels with video and screen sharing. Supports voice activity detection, push-to-talk, and open mic modes. You can also select your microphone, speaker, and screen share quality.

Can I create bots?

Yes. Enclave has a full Bot API. Create bots in Server Settings → Manage Bots, then use the REST API or Socket.IO to send messages and listen for events. See the Bot API docs.

Does Enclave support webhooks?

Yes. Create webhooks in Server Settings → Manage Webhooks. Any external service can POST to the webhook URL to send messages to a channel. No authentication required — just the webhook token.

Can I import from Discord?

Yes. Enclave has a Discord import tool that brings over your server structure, channels, and message history. Imported messages show an "IMPORTED" badge.

What are vanity URLs?

Admins can set a custom vanity URL for their server, like enclaveapp.online/myserver. Set it in Server Settings.

Does Enclave have threads?

Yes. Hover over any message and click the thread icon to start a threaded discussion. Thread replies don't clutter the main channel.

What about polls?

Use the /poll slash command to create a poll with up to 10 options. Members can vote and see results in real-time.

Can I search messages?

Yes. Full-text search with filters for user, date range, channel, and content type (files, links, images). Click the search icon in the top bar.

Server Management

How do roles work?

Admins can create custom roles with specific permissions (30+ permission flags). Roles have colors that show in the member list. Assign roles to members from the member sidebar.

Can I set channel permissions?

Yes. Each channel can have per-role permission overrides. Right-click a channel and go to Edit Channel → Permissions.

What is slowmode?

Admins can set a cooldown on channels (e.g., 5 seconds). Members must wait between messages. Set it in channel settings.

Can I schedule events?

Yes. Create scheduled events with a name, description, date/time, and optional image. Members can RSVP as "Interested".

What do I get with Pro?

10 servers, 500 members per server, 10 GB storage, 50 MB uploads, unlimited message history, 100 custom emoji per server, and priority support. $3/month or $30/year.

How do I cancel my subscription?
